A tale of love lost, then found again. It is the story of Maximillian Von Max, a mad and brilliant scientist and seductress lover/assistant Tatiana Vlaskovsky whose lives are changed cataclysmically after a serious doomsday device mishap. He is maimed, horribly disfigured, and exiled into hiding underground. She is in a coma for three years, only to awaken with complete amnesia: no memory of him, herself, or their life together. Neither knows what has become of the other.

Now, years later, Von Max has located his long, lost love, who has now re-entered into society with a new life and identity. Max has constructed an artificial intelligence humanoid robot, the A#1, that resembles his former self and through which he can speak and also sense what it senses. He will thus use it to make contact with Tatiana (now known as Jane) in his disfigured stead. He sends the robot to her and tries to ignite memories of her old life, but it is to no avail, although she does exhibit some character attributes reminiscent of her old self. However, during this attempt to re-establish the relationship the robot and Jane fall in love, leaving jealous Max in the lurch.

This situation is compounded by the appearance of Max and Tatiana’s former nemesis, Captain Ovation, which leads to a final confrontation with Max over his heart, Tatiana/Jane’s heart, A#1’s mechanical heart, truth, justice, and liberty. With a climax that just might 'stop the heart of the world'.
