Animation Attack!
(program two) Screening Info: 8:30 pm Saturday, August 23, 2008 at The Plaza Theatre Curtains Amanda Goodbread - GA, US - 3 min. Sam, a cartoon character, realizes his world will never be finished by his creator and decides to end things on his own terms. Frog Chris Conforti - NYC, US - 4 min. Frog is hot. But before he finds shade, he'll find some twisted situations. Award-winning film created by Chris Conforti during his time at School of Visual Arts. Germans in the Woods Tim Rauch - NYC, US - 3 min. World War II veteran Joseph Robertson recalls shooting a young German soldier at The Battle of the Bulge, his "saddest memory". Tim Rauch illustrates Joseph's narration (recorded by StoryCorps) in this moving film. God of Tears Max Margulies, Naoko Masuda - PA, USA - 22 min. A God lives by himself on a desolate planet. He is lonely. Everyday he cries tears that transform into rain for the planet below him. This rain brings rainbows. The people of this planet live happily, consuming only rainbows. One day, the God meets a cat. His loneliness fades away and the flow of tears ends. The rainbows stop growing, and people start starving to death. The God must do something about it....Sacrificial death, bloodflow, and fountains of milk abound in this live-action and stop-motion animation hybrid. Malice in Wonderland Vince Collins - CA, US - 4 min. The film, made in 1982, is a delightfully bizarre acid trip adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Maniacal Em Kempf - ATL, US - 4 min. A unique combination of stop-motion and traditional, Em Kempf's first animation is a beautiful sepia toned stream of consciousness with poetic imagery. Em translates her gift for drawing with paint markers into movement on a scruffy background of cardboard. Using mostly free and found materials, she makes a beautiful mess for our viewing pleasure. Marvelous, Keen, Loony Bin Lizzi Akana - NYC, US - 6 min. Balloon headed monkeys mingle with faceless children, talking loaves of bread, and limbless Christmas shoppers. MUTO BLU - Buenos Aries, Argentina - 7 min. An ambiguous (but breathtaking) animation painted on public walls in Buenos Aires and Baden. Orgesticulanismus Mathieu Labaye - Belgium - 9 min. Mathieu Labaye's animated tribute to his father who suffered from multiple sclerosis since he was 29. In this film, his father's voice speaks of handicap, freedom, and understanding while Mathieu's breathtakingly beautiful animation explores these concepts. Princess Ethan Clarke - CA, US - 7 min. An old lady and her cat Princess live together, following a daily routine... Soccer Time Edmond Hawkins - NYC, US - 1 min. Two friends are kicking a soccer ball around in this film, but they get an odd surprise! View entire schedule - 2008 Atlanta Underground Film Festival |
