Unkempt morgue security guard John's right arm was transformed into a costumed super-limb after being stuck in a vending machine (stocked with irradiated soda). With villians from around the globe hitting town for their annual convention, can John's Arm (and his low-rent super-team, the Superior Friends) keep the bad guys at bay, and save the Earth from an even more ludicrous threat than John's horrible hygiene? Fran Krause's junior-year film from the Rhode Island School of design in 1998. It was animated on paper and shot with High-Con 16mm film and has only been screened about three times in the past nine years. El Viaje de Said (Said's Journey) Coke Rioboo - Spain - 12 min. Said, a Moroccan boy, crosses the straits to the land of opportunity, but soon discovers the world is not as beautiful as they told him it would be. Golden Age Aaron Augenblick - NYC, US - 20 min. A beautiful, animated documentary that chronicles the private lives of characters from throughout animated history, spanning from the very early days up to more recent times. Augenblick showcases an astonishingly wide range of styles in this humorous series of films. Karaoke Show Karl Tebbe - Germany - 4 min. A mix between sauna and disco through the magic of stop-motion. Kings of Power 4 Billion % Paul Robertson - Australia - 12 min. Supreme warriors find adventure in Paul Robertson's epic pixelart masterpiece. Moonraker Fran Krause - NYC, US - 3 min. An explorer stranded on a lonely planet sends messages home. An independent animation made with Flash in 2004 which played at the Ottawa Animation Festival, the Annecy Animation Festival, and won a prize for writing from ASIFA East. Red Princess Blues Animated Dan Cregan - FL, US - 7 min. A little girl finds herself in a strange country looking for her father. After she discovers the "Book of Violence," she slowly begins a journey which will soon lead to vengeance. Transrexia Aurelio Voltaire - NY, US - 1 min. After being abandoned Sam has realized that his creator will never finish his world, leading him to the decision to finish things on his own terms. Frog Chris Conforti - NYC, US - 4 min. Frog is hot. But before he finds shade, he'll find some twisted situations. Award-winning film created by Chris Conforti during his time at School of Visual Arts. Germans in the Woods Tim Rauch - NYC, US - 3 min. World War II veteran Joseph Robertson recalls shooting a young German soldier at The Battle of the Bulge, his "saddest memory". Tim Rauch illustrates Joseph's narration (recorded by StoryCorps) in this moving film. God of Tears Max Margulies, Naoko Masuda - PA, USA - 22 min. A God lives by himself on a desolate planet. He is lonely. Everyday he cries tears that transform into rain for the planet below him. This rain brings rainbows. The people of this planet live happily, consuming only rainbows. One day, the God meets a cat. His loneliness fades away and the flow of tears ends. The rainbows stop growing, and people start starving to death. The God must do something about it....Sacrificial death, bloodflow, and fountains of milk abound in this live-action and stop-motion animation hybrid. Malice in Wonderland Vince Collins - CA, US - 4 min. The film, made in 1982, is a delightfully bizarre acid trip adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland. Maniacal Em Kempf - ATL, US - 4 min. A unique combination of stop-motion and traditional, Em Kempf's first animation is a beautiful sepia toned stream of consciousness with poetic imagery. Em translates her gift for drawing with paint markers into movement on a scruffy background of cardboard. Using mostly free and found materials, she makes a beautiful mess for our viewing pleasure. Marvelous, Keen, Loony Bin Lizzi Akana - NYC, US - 6 min. Balloon headed monkeys mingle with faceless children, talking loaves of bread, and limbless Christmas shoppers. MUTO BLU - Buenos Aries, Argentina - 7 min. An ambiguous (but breathtaking) animation painted on public walls in Buenos Aires and Baden. Orgesticulanismus Mathieu Labaye - Belgium - 9 min. Mathieu Labaye's animated tribute to his father who suffered from multiple sclerosis since he was 29. In this film, his father's voice speaks of handicap, freedom, and understanding while Mathieu's breathtakingly beautiful animation explores these concepts. Princess Ethan Clarke - CA, US - 7 min. An old lady and her cat Princess live together, following a daily routine... Soccer Time Edmond Hawkins - NYC, US - 1 min. Two friends are kicking a soccer ball around in this film, but they get an odd surprise! |
